The YMCA of the USA has published the Top 16 list for the 2007-2008 Short Course season.  YSST had 20 swims make the list.  Congratulations to Cory Spencer (3 events), Graham Williams (4 events), and Sava Turcanu (13 events) for their accomplishments.  YSST had 5 number one rankings for the season.  Click here to view the report. 

 

Results from the 2008 Pier-2-pier Open Water swim have been posted on the Meet Schedule page.  YSST had eight swimmers compete at the event.  Congratulations to Collin Danner, Carlee Blanchat, Erin Lee, Janie Kennedy, Katherine Glenn, Danny Aberle, Graham Williams, and Sava Turcanu for a successful weekend.  Top 15 finishers for YSST were Sava Turcanu (3rd-11/14 males),  Graham Williams (9th-15/18 males), Katherine Glenn (11th-15/18 females), and Janie Kennedy (15th-11/14 females).  YSST finished 5th in the team category.

Results from the 2008 Long Course YMCA Nationals have been posted on the Meet Schedule page.  150 YMCA's representing 22 states attended the meet.  YSST finished 36th in the Combined team scores.  Congratulations to Daniel Aberle, Katherine Glenn, Sava Turcanu, and Graham Williams for a successful meet.  Earning YMCA "All-American" status were Sava Turcanu (200 Fly), Katherine Glenn (400 and 1500 Free), and Graham Williams (800 and 1500 Free).  Sava and Graham also broke two team records each at the meet.  

 

The YSST LC Team Records have been updated.  4 team records were broken this week at the 2008 YMCA Long Course National Championships.  Graham Williams set new standards in the Open 800 and 1500 Free, and Sava Turcanu broke his own team records in the 13-14 100 and 200 Fly.

The YSST LC Team Records have been updated.  4 team records were broken this weekend at the NCS 14 & U LC Champs.  Emma Weisgerber broke her own record in the 10 & U 400 Free.  Sava Turcanu set new standards in the 13-14 100 Fly, 200 Fly, and 800 Free. 

 

 

The YSST Long Course Team Records have been updated.  5 team records were broken this past weekend at the USRY LC Champs.  Sophia Cherkez set new standards in the 8 & U girls 100 Free, 200 Free, and 200 IM.  Emma Weisgerber broke her own record in the 10 & U 400 Free, and Sava Turcanu set a new record in the 13-14 100 Fly.

The NCS Open Water Champs results have been posted on the Meet Schedule page.  Congratulations to Katherine Glenn and Danny Aberle for their performances.  Katherine won the Women's 10K event and Danny finished 3rd in the Men's 10K event.

The Long Course team records have been updated.  At the 11th Annual YSSC Coach's Invite, Sophia Cherkez broke the 8 & under 100 Back and 100 Fly team records.    

 

The North Carolina Swimming Awards Banquet was held Sunday, May 4th in Charlotte.  YSST had five athletes recognized at the banquet.  Cory Spencer, Katherine Glenn, Miriam McDonald, Graham Williams, and Sava Turcanu were recognized as Top 5 performers in their respective age groups.  Additionally, Graham Williams and Sava Turcanu were named North Carolina Swimming All-Stars (Graham for 13-14 boys and Sava for both 11-12 and 13-14 boys).  Also, Sava Turcanu was recognized for setting a new state record in the 11-12 boys 200 yard butterfly.

North Carolina Swimming has posted a Top Ten list for all events 11 and over for the 2007-2008 Short Course season.  Swimmers are ranked by single age group.  YSST had 39 times make the list with 7 as #1 rankings.  Congratulations to Miriam McDonald, Danny Aberle, Nicholas Lee, Katherine Glenn, Graham Williams, and Sava Turcanu for achieving top ten swims in the state.  Top Ten Times (PDF) for swimmers in North Carolina Swimming.  Read the Rationale (PDF) for the age groupings reported. 

 

Congratulations to Katherine Glenn, Graham Williams, and Sava Turcanu for a successful meet in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  Results from the meet are posted on the Meet Schedule page.

 

The Short Course Yards team records have been updated.  At the 2008 YMCA SC National Championships, Graham Williams broke his own team records in the 13-14 and Open 500 and 1000 Free.  He also broke the team record in the 13-14 and Open 1650 Free.  That brings the total to 18 team records this season by 5 different athletes.

 

Sava Turcanu's 100 yard Butterfly swim at the Capital Classic in December broke the national record for YMCA swimming in the 11-12 age group.  Congratulations Sava!

Team Records Updated (posted 3/17/08)
The Short Course Yards team records have been updated.  At the 2008 Upper SE Regional YMCA Championships, Graham Williams broke his own team records in the 13-14 and Open 1000 Free posting a 9:51.40.  Cory Spencer broke his own team record in the 9-10 100 Breast posting a 1:21.64, and Sophia Cherkez broke the team record in the 8 & Under 100 Back posting a 1:25.30.  That brings the total to 17 team records this season by 5 different athletes.

2008 Upper SE Regional YMCA Champs (posted 3/17/08)
Results from the 2008 Upper SE Regional YMCA Championships have been posted on the Meet Schedule page.  YSST finished 9th out of 46 teams from Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

NCS 14 & Under Championships (posted 2/25/08)
Results from the NCS 14 & Under Championships have been posted on the Meet Schedule page.  Graham Williams, Sava Turcanu, and Cory Spencer all posted top 5 finishes at the meet.  Graham claimed a state title in the 1650 Free, and Cory finished second in the 50 Breast.  All three qualified for the North Carolina Swimming Select Camp to be held in May.

The Short Course Yards team records have been updated.  Graham Williams set new records in the 13-14 and Open male 1000 Free this past weekend at the NCS 14 & Under Champs.  16 team records have been set during the 2007-2008 Short Course season.

The Short Course Yards team records have been updated.  Katherine Glenn tied the team record in the Open Female 500 Free with a 5:08.25 on February 2nd.  Graham Williams set new team records in the 13-14 and Open Male 500 Free with a 4:48.91 on February 9th.  15 team records have been set during the 2007-2008 Short Course season.

Results from the CHY Holiday Invite and the YOTA Capital Classic have been posted on the Meet Schedule page. The Team Records page has been updated.  We had 12 team records broken this fall.  Cory Spencer achieved two new team records and Sava Turcanu achieved 10 new team records. 

2007 Fall States (posted 12/11/07)
We had some great swims this past weekend in Raleigh at Fall States.  Sava Turcanu set a new state record for 11-12 boys in the 200 Butterfly with a time of 2:01.42.   The old record of 2:04.26 was set in 2003.  Full results are posted on the Meet Schedule page.  Congratulations to all for a great meet!

Carolina Aquatics Autumn Splash (posted 11/7/07)
We had 31 swimmers at the Carolina Aquatics Autumn Splash in Columbia, SC on  October 26-28.  Meet results can be found on the Meet Schedule page.

YWNC October Opener (posted 10/16/07)
We had 44 swimmers participate in the YWNC October Opener in Marion, NC on Saturday, October 13th.  The meet went well with some great early season swims.  Meet results can be found on the Meet Schedule page by clicking on results.
